| As human beings created in the image of God, we share a common humanity. Christ blessed our humanity as "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." We at MCC in the Valley believe that care for those in poverty and in need is part of the good works that flow from a loving relationship with God. Care for the needy is an important part of a healthy spiritual community. The following is a record of giving outside of our church since 2004. 2006 Ongoing Monthly Support for the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry Ralphs Club Community Contribution Program Contributed $4,500 plus 250 bags of food, plus blankets and diapers to the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry $1,560 donated to the Latin American MCC Churches 600 Easter bunnies and baskets donated to kids living in L.A. shelters Christmas Toy Drive for HIV-positive kids 2005 $2,300 raised for OxFam's Effort for Tsunami Relief 800 plastic Easter eggs stuffed with candies for Orphans $1,100 raised for MCC in Buenos Aires (enough to pay its rent for 7 months) December 1, 2005 World AIDS Day screening of the film Nine Lives (from the Michael Kearns play "Complications") raised love offering of $200 to AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), and $135 for HIV+ Children at Mother of Peace Orphanage in Zimbabwe, southern Africa Christmas Toy Drive for 75 Foster Care Kids (GLASS) 2004 Robes and Slippers for 60 Orphans for Christmas 2004 Christmas Toy Drive for 120 Foster Care Kids (GLASS) |
